Leo. A few key habits are still standing between you and the person you want to be. For instance, the concept of giving time to your creative life could be revolutionary to you. Why make excuses when you could be making history?

I don’t suppose that I do understand the concept of “giving time” to my creative life. It certainly could be revolutionary if I figured it out. I remember advice from some author or another once; something to the effect of “John Grisham wasn’t at home watching Must See TV when he was trying to publish, I can assure you.” She is right.
I do acquiesce to the fact that I need to pay more attention to my creative side. That is true. I find myself admiring those that do. The thing that I need to remember is that those individuals that have done enough with their own creativity in order to gain my admiration have worked hard for it. They missed years of Must See TV. They networked instead of partied. They stayed up late to get a story pitch just right.
I find myself wallowing often in my lot in life. I am a slave to the man (sidebar: I tried to type the word “slave” like four times and kept typing the word “salve” – is that Freudian? I hope I don’t need salve of any kind), yet I am not completely miserable in my current employment situation. On the other hand, I also keep telling myself that “next time, it’s self employment, baby!”
Here is my list of possible career moves based solely on my creative ability:
Greeting card creator
Media pundit
Syndicated columnist
Story Time Lady at the library
Author of children’s books and controversial yet witty novels
You know, I was going to continue with the above. I have at least three more things to put on that list. I am stopping myself, though. You can dream, but if you are going to dream big you may as well throw caution to the wind.
I hope the library crowd doesn’t reject me. Those story time kids can be brutal. If they are, I can always create and then send an “I’m sorry I suck” card to the library in question.
Now THAT is creative.
