A shining example of Rumsfeld’s leadership is reflected in a quote from a February 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing:
As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns. That is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know.
Hm.
Were the WMDs in Iraq part of the unknown known, or known unknowns?
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

You crack me up! I will miss Rummy's poetry. Let's see what your peeps (tasty marshmallow treats) do with the war in Iraq. See you at the hockey game!
Frankly, I liked Rummy. I think he was given a crappy job and made the most of it. I agree though that it might be time to replace him since he's been such a negative lightning rod for the administration. I really doubt anyone could have done a better job though.
I always loved the unknown/known quote though. I think he threw it out there to watch the press implode trying to figure it out. I really think there are people out there that missed the point. The point being that sometimes there are just things that nobody could have forseen. You can't "know" everything. If you are aware of what you don't know, you should always endeavor to know those... but, in the case of the unknown unknowns... what can you do aside from try to get a handle on them...
Don't know why I insisted on commenting. We've agreed to disagree in the past :)
How funny that only those of us who have agreed to disagree with you have posted comments here so far. Are you ever going to come to work this winter?
Hi honey, glad to see the old boy out the door. Boeing might pick him up as a CEO we have not had enough goofs already. Now maybe Chris can come home from Baghdad and never go back. Making the salsa for Christmas??
